Alberta Announces Agri-Food Hub For Lethbridge

It’s a key investment for the Province of Alberta and good news for the City of Lethbridge, the ag sector, and southern Alberta.

Premier Jason Kenny announced $27.8 Million for an Agri-Food Hub to be built at Lethbridge Exhibition Park as part of the facilities' redevelopment project.

“Alberta’s Agriculture and Agri-Food sector is a cornerstone of our economic recovery plan. This investment will help get Albertans back to work now and will fuel the long-term growth of Alberta’s dynamic agriculture industry.”

The Agri-Food Hub fits in with the greater Lethbridge region, which is known as Canada’s Premier Food Corridor.

“The corridor has already attracted some of the world’s biggest food processors, including Cavendish Farms which opened its huge new state of the art $430 million frozen potato processing plant last year.” He says “Expanding this park's role and its facilities as an Agri-Food Hub will help the region become an even bigger and even more diversified producer of high quality, high-value food products for markets all across the world.”

Kenny says the project will also provide applied learning opportunities for culinary students from Lethbridge College.

The $27.8 million investment is part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan and will serve as an anchor for the growth of Alberta’s value-added food sector.

The Agri-Food Hub is a welcome addition to Exhibition Park's $70 million  EXolution development project that features the construction of a 268,000 square foot Trade Centre.
