Albrecht Seeger honoured with 2019 Niagara Agriculture Lifetime Achievement Award

St. Catharines, ON: The Grape Growers of Ontario congratulate Niagara-on-the-Lake grape grower Albrecht Seeger on receiving the Niagara North Federation of Agriculture’s 2019 Niagara Agriculture Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Albrecht (pictured on right with Matthias Oppenlaender, Chair, Grape Growers of Ontario) is the fourth generation of his family to grow grapes, with his parents bringing their expertise from Germany in 1978. They purchased 70 acres of land in Niagara-on-the-Lake across from Inniskillin Winery and when selecting and planting the vineyard, Albrecht insisted on planting high quality vinifera grapes destined for wine production. Currently celebrating 41 years growing grapes in Canada, along with his wife Anja, Albrecht cultivates 150 acres of premium vinifera grapes, including the oldest plantings of Riesling and Chardonnay vines in Niagara-on-the-Lake. He is a two-time winner of the Cuvée Award of Excellence in Viticulture in 2010 and 2018, and was honoured as Grape King in 1998.

“Albrecht is a pillar of the grape growing community,” says Matthias Oppenlaender, Chair, Grape Growers of Ontario. “He has served as a member of Grape Growers of Ontario’s Grower’s Committee for 25 years, including 15 years on the Board of Directors. He is also a valuable member of the Ontario Grape and Wine Research Technical Committee.”

The Grape Growers of Ontario thank Albrecht for his dedication to Ontario’s grape and wine industry, and congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition.

I brought a pallet of Miravis Neo from @SyngentaAgUS to our neighbor so they could fire up their sprayer and start custom applying fungicide to all our corn acres.
