CFO takes important message to Federal-Provincial-Territorial Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting

GUELPH, ON – As the Ontario Government hosts agriculture Ministers from across the country, Ed Benjamins, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Ontario, and Denise Hockaday, CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario, participated in the opening of the 2021 Conference of the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Agriculture Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

CFO was a premier sponsor of the welcome reception which showcased Ontario-grown food, and CFO was pleased to be able to represent Ontario’s 1,300 chicken farmers with the Federal-Provincial-Territorial delegates from across Canada.

“The welcome reception was a great opportunity to connect with government and agriculture stakeholders to discuss support for sustainable, supply managed, chicken agriculture,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “We were also pleased to have the opportunity to emphasize that the Next Policy Framework must ensure farmers have confidence in the programs designed to support them regardless of farm type, commodity produced, scale, or region.”

The development of the Next Policy Framework (NPF) presents a pivotal opportunity to seize Canadian agriculture’s potential, economically, socially, and environmentally. CFO and Chicken Farmers of Canada are working together to express the interests of chicken farmers.

“If there is anything that the pandemic has demonstrated, it is that the agriculture community is stronger when we are united on shared priorities. Together, we have the ability to deliver an environment that supports long-term value creation,” said Denise Hockaday, CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “We see a continued opportunity to support public trust through innovation, an FPT animal care recognition protocol, and through science-based regulations and policy-making.”

CFO would like to thank Minister Lisa Thompson and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for hosting the event and facilitating further collaboration between agriculture stakeholders and governments across Canada.
