Grain Farmers of Ontario, the province’s largest commodity organization, representing Ontario’s 28,000 barley, corn, oat, soybean, and wheat farmers, has announced its intentions to support Cereals Canada’s Global Agriculture Technology Exchange (Gate) initiative.
Grain Farmers of Ontario is joined in its support by Alberta Grains, Manitoba Crop Alliance, Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission, and other stakeholders. This new facility creates a hub of excellence for cereal grains in Canada and will allow Cereals Canada to maintain the globally recognized expertise needed to support today’s markets and ensure end-user success without limiting the ability to explore new market trends and the technologies of the future.
“The Canadian economy relies very heavily on the success of the agriculture industry, and grains are the foundation of this industry. We recognize the importance of having a best-in-class facility and services to promote Canadian grain to export markets and domestic customers,” said Jeff Harrison, Chair, Grain Farmers of Ontario. “The Gate initiative will send a strong signal to all of Canada that we as a grains industry are willing to invest in the future of agriculture and grains and ensure we build upon our global reputation for sustainability, quality, and safety.”
Over the last 50 years, Cereals Canada (and its predecessor, the Canadian International Grains Institute) has worked to advance the cereals value chain and built a reputation for training, testing, and innovation within the industry. Cereals Canada needs a new facility to maintain this momentum and continue meeting the global demand for high-quality Canadian grains.
