Major Retailer Shows Commitment To Canadian Ranchers And Sustainability

The Chair for the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef is pleased to see Walmart Canada now sourcing beef from certified sustainable farms and ranches
in Canada.

Anne Wasko says it's a big move for the industry to have Walmart as the first retailer in Canada to offer on-pack certified sustainable claims on a line of beef products.

"Anytime you're getting these large companies that have the kind of breadth, you know, nationally and internationally of big corporations like Walmart in this case or when we launched with food service with McDonald's several years ago. You get some big carry, in terms of what that means, you know, across the entire consumer base, you know, both here and abroad."

The press release notes that the certification demonstrates Walmart's commitment and contribution to supporting sustainable beef practices across five principles – Natural Resources, People and Community, Animal Health and Welfare, Food, and Efficiency & Innovation, verified through 3rd party certification. Sourcing beef sustainably is important because as the world population grows, we need to produce food efficiently and responsibly.
