Meeting On Golden Triangle Barley Set For Feb. 10 In Conrad

A meeting focusing on Golden Triangle barley will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Conrad.
 
Some of the top professionals in the industry will speak at the meeting, which will run from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pondera Shooting Sports Complex, 972 Granite Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The meeting is free, but those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Friday, Feb. 6.
 
Speakers from Montana State University Extension will include Erik Lehnoff on “Managing Disease to Produce a High Quality Crop,” Kevin Wanner on “Managing Wireworms and Other Insect Pests Damaging Barley” and Rachel Endecott on “Sprouted Grain and its Uses to the Livstock Industry.” Jamie Sherman, MSU’s new barley breeder, will provide an outlook and goals for MSU’s barley program.
 
Other speakers will include Cassidy Marn and Steven Becker from the Montana Wheat and Barley committee. They will give an update on the committee’s activities. Dave Paul from Watts & Associates will explain “Barley and Malting Barley Crop Insurance with a Look Ahead to Exciting Changes Proposed for 2016.” Wade Malchow of MillerCoors will cover “Sustainable Barley Production.”
 
The day will conclude with a malting barley industry panel consisting of Jerry Jerome of Busch Agricultural Resources, Wade Malchow of MillerCoors, Mark Black of Malteurop and Jeff Farkell from Centrol Crop Consulting.
 
Lunch will be provided, but organizers ask that operations limit themselves to two representatives. Snacks and refreshments will be available at 3 p.m.
 
One private/commercial pesticide applicator point will be available for attending the meeting.
