UPL: Your Partner in Crop Protection for Wheat

It comes as no surprise that agriculture is a key part of Canada’s economy as well as the world’s food production. Among Canadian agriculture, wheat is a foundational crop with most of the production in Western Canada. With such a heavy reliance on the Canadian agriculture market comes a need for reliable crop protection. UPL has a strong portfolio of products that growers can depend on. Here are some of our leading brands.

Seed treatment for a healthy start

Give your wheat crop a fair chance at a healthy start this season with the use of RANCONA® TRIO. With advanced-generation seed treatment technology, three powerful fungicides offer multi-mode combination with both contact and systemic activity for maximum protection against a broad spectrum of seed and seedling diseases in cereals and pulses. RANCONA TRIO’s easy-to-use (ETU) formulation means no dilution required, less sticking and clumping, low dust levels, easy cleanup and a lower freezing point.

Herbicides for better weed management

With built-in safener technology and an easier to use formulation, EVEREST® 3.0 gives growers dependable, hassle-free control of wild oats, green foxtail, barnyard grass and key broadleaf weeds with the peace of mind that comes from best-in-class crop safety.

A post-emergent herbicide, AKITO™ provides rapid control of hard-to-kill annual and perennial broadleaf weeds in spring wheat, durum wheat, winter wheat, barley and oats. As Group 2 and Group 4 herbicide, the powerful combination of clopyralid, florasulam and fluroxypyr makes AKITO a valuable tool in the fight against resistance management.

With three active ingredients working together, INFERNO® TRIO is an excellent burndown product for wheat. A powerful combination of flucarbazone, florasulam and carfentrazone provides enhanced and extended control of hard-to-kill grass and broadleaf weeds, including Group 1-resistant wild oat, Group 2-resistant kochia, cleavers, wild buckwheat and Roundup Ready® canola volunteers.

Another burndown option for wheat growers is INFERNO® DUO. Two active ingredients working together with glyphosate make INFERNO DUO more effective than Express® SG in controlling hard-to-kill weeds like dandelion, hawk’s beard, foxtail barley and Roundup Ready® canola. Plus, INFERNO DUO's residual flushing control gives you long-lasting control of grassy weeds like wild oats and green foxtail.

Fungicides for dependable disease control

EVITO® is a highly systemic strobilurin providing fast, reliable and long-lasting protection against fungal diseases. Plus, EVITO offers residual soil activity, meaning rain or irrigation can provide a second boost for even longer-lasting protection.

New to the market, ROXAR™ provides effective protection against Fusarium head blight and other damaging foliar diseases in wheat and barley. ROXAR contains a highly systemic triazole that moves quickly through the xylem for rapid uptake and broad-spectrum disease control, including control of stem rust, stripe rust, tan spot and suppression of Fusarium head blight, septoria leaf spot and glume blotch.

Insecticide for a wide spectrum of insects

The UPL brand of permethrin, Perm-Up®, is a tried and tested member of the pyrethroid insecticide family. Covering a wide spectrum of target insects and large variety of crops, Perm-Up is the cream of the crop when it comes to product quality and value.

Biostimulant for optimized plant nutrition

OHM™ is a highly advanced and highly concentrated liquid form of Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extract that optimizes nutrient use efficiency for enhanced plant growth and development. Increased plant vigour and yield potential has been documented in a wide variety of crops, including cereals, pulses, canola, corn and horticulture crops. This product has been globally proven to optimize plant nutrition utilization, including larger root length and larger leaf size, which ultimately leads to higher yield potential. OHM can be safely tank-mixed with all UPL herbicide and fungicide products.

“When it comes to crop protection, growers know not to leave anything to chance. UPL is proud to offer some of the most trusted names in crop protection for the Canadian market, and our roster is growing,” says Chris Nowlan, Portfolio Marketing Lead – Canada for UPL. “We’re here to help growers achieve their production goals with some of the best crop protection tools.”
