26th Annual Irrigation Saskatchewan Conference Kicks Off Today

Irrigators are gathering near Saskatoon this year's Annual Conference.

Aaron Grey is Chair of the Saskatchewan Irrigation Projects Association and says out of all the years, this year was definitely one year when irrigation shone.

He notes with the widespread drought across the province, it showed the importance of irrigation, adding it was sure good to have irrigation pivots in your back pocket.

"We ran a drop the straw campaign as well for the Irrigation Sector, so that the cattle producers would be able to utilize the straw for roughage."

He says they had a good response to the campaign, but there was more need than they could supply.

Saskatchewan currently has about 200,000 irrigated acres and with the expansion that was announced in July of last year, that's expected to increase by about 500,000 acres.

During this week's Irrigation Conference, participants will get an update on the Province's Irrigation expansion and the potential merger for SIPA and I-C-D-C.

Gray says they will also be introduced to the group's new Executive Director, Jillian Brown, who did her master's thesis on Irrigation Saskatchewan.

The 26th Annual Irrigation Saskatchewan Conference wraps up on Wednesday.

I brought a pallet of Miravis Neo from @SyngentaAgUS to our neighbor so they could fire up their sprayer and start custom applying fungicide to all our corn acres.
