Michigan September Agricultural Prices

Prices received by Michigan farmers for the full month of September 2016 are listed in the table below.

Some Michigan highlights were: September corn, at $3.43 per bushel, decreased $0.02 from August and decreased $0.30 from last year; September soybeans, at $9.67 per bushel, decrea sed $0.43 from last month and increased $0.74 from last year; September wheat, at $3.90 per bushel, decreased $0.10 from August and decreased $1.61 from last year; September milk, at $16.20 per cwt., increased $0.60 from last month, and decreased $1.00 fro m last year. The September Prices Received Index (Agricultural Production), at 86.5, decreased 3.9 percent from August 2016. The Crop Production Index, at 84.0, decreased 1.2 percent. The Livestock Production Index, at 88.7, decreased 5.7 percent. Produce rs received lower prices for cattle, hogs, broilers, and peaches but higher prices for milk, sweet corn, apples, and turkeys. Compared with a year earlier, the Prices Received Index is down 10 percent.

The Crop Production Index decreased 2.7 percent and th e Livestock Production Index 19 percent. In addition to prices, the indexes are influenced by the monthly mix of commodities producers market. Increased monthly movement of soybeans, corn, potatoes, and calves offset the decreased marketing of cattle, cott on, wheat, and peaches. The Food Commodities Index, at 89.7, decreased 4.3 percent from the previous month and is down 11 percent from September 2015.
