Secretary Rollins Meets Crews to Address Fire Safety Needs

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins recently met with wildland firefighters to recognize their service and discuss strategies for improving wildfire response efforts.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for firefighters to share their experiences and offer recommendations on how the USDA can better support their needs.

During the discussion, Rollins acknowledged the firefighters' dedication and sacrifice. “Every time you respond to a call, you risk your lives to protect our people, our communities, and our beautiful homeland—and it doesn’t go unnoticed,” she said. She emphasized the nation's appreciation for their efforts in containing wildfires like the Palisades and Eaton fires in California.

Firefighters from the Mark Twain National Forest Veteran’s Crew, a team of military veterans from Missouri, and a wildland fire engine team from Angeles National Forest in California participated in the discussion. They highlighted key challenges, including the need for enhanced training, better equipment, and proactive fire management strategies.

Rollins reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening resources and policies that support the U.S. firefighting force. She plans to meet with additional teams across the country to gather further insights and ensure that all firefighters receive the necessary tools and assistance to perform their duties effectively.

As part of her ongoing commitment, Rollins had earlier sent a video message and letter to U.S. Forest Service firefighters, expressing gratitude for their dedication. These initiatives reflect the USDA’s mission to enhance fire preparedness and protect both frontline workers and the communities they serve.
