Saskatchewan Agriculture's Weekly Cattle Report

Highlights for the week ending February 11th include:

  • Feeder steer prices were up across all the reported weight categories for the week. Prices ranged from $249.33 per cwt for the 300-400lb weight category to $185.25 per cwt for the 900+lb weight category. The biggest price increase was seen in the 400-500lb weight category with an increase of $7.32 per cwt to average the week at $245.70 per cwt. The smallest price increase was seen in the 300-400lb weight category with a price increase of $0.50 per cwt to average the week at $249.33.
  • The average weekly prices for Saskatchewan’s feeder heifer prices were up across all the reported weight categories. Prices ranged from $203.88 per cwt for the 300-400lb weight category to $167.55 per cwt for the 800+lb weight category. The largest price increase reported was seen in the 500-600lb weight category with an increase of $5.50 per cwt to average the week at $198.17 per cwt. The smallest price increase over the week was seen in the 300-400lb weight category with an increase of $1.00 per cwt to finish the week off at $203.88 per cwt.
  • Nearby live cattle future contracts saw a slight decrease throughout the week. The February live cattle futures contract had a decrease of US$0.175 per cwt relative to the week of February 4th to settle Friday at US$141.875 per cwt. The April contract had a price decrease of US$0.700 per cwt compared to the February 4th contract to settle Friday at US$146.175 per cwt.
  • Choice beef cutout prices (600-900 lb.) for the week averaged US$276.31 per cwt, a price decline of US$7.74 per cwt or 2.7 per cent from US$284.05 per cwt the week of February 4th.
