The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) published in the Federal Register a Notice of Funds Availability (NOFA) today that raises an initially announced $20 million of funding in March to $80 million due to the high demand for EGSFP. Eligible producers in South Dakota, Kentucky, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, and Tennessee were eligible to apply for these funds.
According to the NOFA, “This notice closes the application period for the program due to the current volume of applications received. This notice will not change any other information in the original EGSFP NOFA.”
South Dakota Corn Growers Association (SDCGA) President Dave Ellens of Madison shares, “We are pleased that USDA has increased the funding available for this program since it is definitely needed with the outpouring of response from producers.”
Payments for this program cover 75 or 90 percent of eligible expenses associated with building grain storage capacity or purchasing equipment.
A derecho swept across a large portion of South Dakota on May 12, 2022 with wind speeds exceeding 100 mph.
Ellens says, “Vilsack continues to recognize the importance of storage capacity in areas hard hit by natural disaster and we appreciate the attention paid to issues that affect growers in the countryside.”
