Eichler Says Manitoba Is Well Positioned To Be Leader In Protein Sector

A lot happened in the agriculture industry in Manitoba in 2021.

Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler looked back on the past year.

"The opening of Merit, when we talk about the protein strategies. Of course, Roquette had their opening as well. NutriPea had an expansion on their facilities...The expansion at Winkler Meats, seeing what they're doing, creating more jobs in that area as well. With Maple Leaf in St. Boniface, with that bacon and ham centre of excellence, created more opportunities, more jobs there as well."

Eichler says Manitoba is positioned well as a province investment-wise to get us to that level where we're going to be leading the [protein] sector.

He looked ahead to 2022.

"We'll finish up with our policy framework in July, that we'll be able to announce and come into effect in 2023. So we know there's some recommended changes from our stakeholders on that regard. Certainly lots to be able to do and be able to share," commented Eichler.
